All About Prada Handbags & Purses

Prada Handbags & Purses

Summary:    Prada handbags and Prada purses are timeless and classic. Originally the Prada purse was one of just a few leather goods made by the original Prada stores in Milan, but with the leadership and fashion sense of heir Miuccia Prada, the Prada handbag and purse line is now one of the classics of all times.

The name Prada has always been synonymous with fine leather goods, and Prada purses and Prada handbags are no exception. Prada purses, however, were not the first line for Prada, and in fact the Prada purse didn’t really take off until the mid-1980s, when Miuccia Prada, granddaughter of the original founder, introduced Prada purses made of parachute nylon.

Fratelli Prada, Italian for “Prada Brothers”, was founded by Mario Prada in 1913, where he sold leather purses, shoes, and luggage through two stores in Milan. Mario’s daughter inherited the business from her father, and her daughter, Mario Prada’s granddaughter, Miuccia Prada, inherited the company from her mother in 1978.

At the time that Miuccia Prada inherited the company, Prada was still primarily a leather goods house, producing their famed Prada shoes, luggage, and Prada purses.

But in 1978, Miuccia introduced a new type of Prada purse, lean and sleek and styled out of nylon - parachute nylon to be precise. Miuccia’s new Prada purse was so successful that it led to a huge upsurge in counterfeit Prada purses.

Since taking over the helm of Prada, Miuccia has introduced many innovations, including lower-priced ready-to-wear lines, and opened boutiques around the world. But one thing has not changed - the popularity and timelessness of her classic Prada purse.
